Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, will announce new U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic on Monday. Sanctions that Bessent himself had previously described as unprecedented.

In addition to the sanctions, the Trump administration is trying to deprive the Islamic Republic of the Strait of Hormuz advantage; a waterway through which 20% of the world’s energy was previously transported, and during this period the Islamic Republic attempted to disrupt transit through attacks on ships and oil tankers.

Now, the United States is pushing forward in this strait, and 80% of traffic through Hormuz is carried out via the “dark route” using tactics previously employed by the Islamic Republic.
