Saudi Aramco is considering offering a discount on its official oil selling price for oil that is loaded off Oman’s coasts and outside the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Reuters, citing five people familiar with the matter, the aim of this move is to compensate buyers for unprecedented rates of sea freight and could help the company regain some of Saudi Arabia’s lost market share.

Based on the same report, the discount under discussion is about $9 per barrel and could include cargoes that this week will be offered for loading in the second half of next month via ship-to-ship transfers off the coasts of Oman.
