Rick Scott, the Republican U.S. senator from the state of Florida, in reaction to a report about executions and the suppression of citizens in Iran, described the Islamic Republic’s actions against the people as “disgusting.”
By referring to the figures presented in the released report, he said that since March, 56 Iranians, including people under the legal age, have been killed for what he called “defending freedom,” and hundreds of other prisoners are also at risk of execution.
Scott went on to accuse the Islamic Republic of torturing and killing its own citizens, emphasizing that a government with such conduct should never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
The remarks are made amid concerns about the issuance and implementation of death sentences for protesters and political prisoners in Iran
