Reuters, citing a senior Iranian official, reports that the Islamic Republic, in negotiations with Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has asked for full control over the passage of incoming ships and oversight of the outgoing traffic through this waterway.

The source, who is present in the negotiations, said on Tuesday 13 Mordad that, according to the plan under discussion, outgoing ships would travel via a route between Iran and Oman, and that their departure authorization would be issued through Oman after notification to Iran. The Islamic Republic also wants, if necessary, to have the ability to intervene in outgoing traffic.

The official added: “It is unlikely that Tehran will change its position.”
