Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, with reference to the “Mecca Agreement” stressed that the main goal of this framework is to strengthen deterrence and help ensure peace and stability in the region, and that the agreement was not formed against any specific country.

Erdoğan said: “We have taken on the historic responsibility of helping to guarantee stability in our region. The main goal of this agreement is to strengthen deterrence, and its doors are open to all our brother countries.”

The Turkish president also said, regarding the expansion of this regional framework: “Our vision is that, if possible, in the end we will bring all the countries of the region together under this framework.”

The Mecca Agreement was recently reached between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, and reports point to the possibility of Egypt joining the defense agreement. The Islamic Republic has said that it is not worried about the implementation of this agreement, which describes an attack on the soil of one country as an attack on other members.
