Raha Bahraini, a legal scholar and researcher for Amnesty International on Iran affairs, said that the organization, by launching a global campaign, is seeking to garner the support of member countries of the United Nations General Assembly to establish a special mechanism for criminal justice.
According to her, the impunity of those responsible for repression has created the conditions for the repetition of crimes against humanity on a broader scale.
Bahraini added that wars and regional tensions have diverted global attention from the killings of protesters in Dey 1404 and from the increase in executions. She emphasized that documenting human-rights violations is not enough, and without political will to set up an international court, the cycle of repression and the impunity of those responsible will continue.
