Official figures from Turkey report a significant surge in trade with Iran over the past three months.

The average monthly trade between Iran and Turkey between June and August has reached nearly $540 million, while this figure was $360 million in the first three months of the war and $195 million in the two months before the war.

In total, Turkey’s exports to Iran in the first eight months of this year amounted to $1.56 billion, and Iran’s exports to Turkey were $1.86 billion.

Bilateral trade between Iran and Turkey in the period in question has grown by more than 30% compared with the first eight months of last year. A significant part of this growth is attributed to the sharp increase in Iran’s gas exports to Turkey.

This growth is occurring while the United Arab Emirates has cut its banking and air links with the Islamic Republic and has transferred part of the goods transit that previously took place via Dubai to the route through Turkey. Turkey, too, is under pressure from U.S. sanctions and has canceled the monthly flights of Iran Air and revoked the license of Bank Meli, but trade and ground transit between the two countries
