🔻Krista Pike’s lawyers, the woman sentenced to death in the U.S., say that after she survived a botched execution by injection of a lethal substance last week, she has regained consciousness and is able to speak.
Her lawyers said in a statement on Tuesday that the 50-year-old Pike is in intensive care in a hospital while wearing handcuffs. Ms. Pike, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Colin Slaymer in 1995, survived the injection of two doses of a lethal toxic substance in the U.S. state of Tennessee last Wednesday.
She was taken to the hospital and was unconscious for several days as doctors tried to remove the chemicals injected into her body.
Pike’s lawyers called her medical progress “unprecedented” and said that as the recovery process is still unclear, “but at least it appears she will go through a long recovery period.”
Deborah Denno, a criminologist and professor at Fordham University School of Law, said she was completely astonished that Pike has regained consciousness and can speak.
