Kayhan newspaper, which is published under the supervision of the representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, in reference to the issue of compulsory hijab, wrote: “Immodesty has, for some, crossed the boundary of head-covering, and now signs of broken boundaries of modesty and chastity in public spaces can be seen; a process that, according to experts, requires immediate stoppage.”

Kayhan continued: “For some time now, unfortunately, in certain streets and public spaces we have been witnessing a hideous display of border-breaking linked to immodesty and the promotion of promiscuity by some women and girls, who, for different reasons—deliberately or out of neglect—have ignored this unlawful religious and political act.”

The newspaper added: “A country that stands against external threats must at the same time be sensitive to its cultural and social assets. In the end, what matters above all today is stopping the process. One should not allow the breaking of one boundary to become a prelude to breaking the next, and later, after some time, society should not be faced with phenomena that even a few years ago would have been difficult to imagine becoming normalized.”
