Kambiz Tohna, a member of the editorial board of Iran International, said that Marco Rubio’s positions indicate that Washington is seeking fundamental changes in the behavior and policies of the Islamic Republic and no longer considers general agreements and diplomatic promises sufficient.

Referring to a Reuters report about Qatar’s mediation, Tohna added that the proposed Qatari mediators have presented a seven-day plan to Tehran, including seven specific steps. According to him, the United States wants practical, implementable actions before moving forward with negotiations, while the Islamic Republic continues to emphasize lifting sanctions and receiving concessions in exchange for an agreement.
