Jمشید Barezgar, journalist and political analyst, said the absence of Mojtaba Khamenei from public view has reduced the impact of threats attributed to him, but senior military commanders repeat these threats. According to him, Mohsen Rezai, by raising the possibility of withdrawal from the NPT and changing the nuclear doctrine, is trying to increase pressure on the United States and Western countries.

Barezgar added that, by threatening to expand the war beyond the region, especially to Europe, the Islamic Republic wants European countries to pressure Washington in order to prevent a military attack. He also said that despite the continuation of diplomatic efforts, the likelihood of fresh military confrontation has increased.
