JD Vance, the U.S. vice president, told CBS News that the United States has achieved “decisive victory” by destroying Iran’s nuclear program, but the war must continue so that the Islamic Republic cannot rebuild its nuclear capabilities and a global energy crisis can be prevented.

In an interview with Tony Doughty, Vance said: “I will be the first to tell you that the price of gasoline is too high. If the U.S. Navy hadn’t kept the flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, prices would have been three times that amount.”

He said continuing the war is linked to preventing the Islamic Republic from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities and maintaining the flow of energy from the Strait of Hormuz.

Vance also emphasized that the U.S. Navy’s presence in the Strait of Hormuz has enabled the continued transfer of oil and gas through this waterway, and, as he said, it has prevented a further sharp increase in fuel prices.
