The foreign minister of the Islamic Republic indirectly rejected the role of the Iranian government in the recent drone attack on Egypt and claimed that Egypt’s security for the Islamic Republic “is of the highest degree of importance.”

Abbas Araqchi, on the X social network, without providing any evidence or documents, warned about what he called “Israeli plots” and “false-flag operations,” which he said were “designed with the aim of undermining regional peace.”

The drone attack on Wednesday on two gas storage and liquefied natural gas conversion vessels at Egypt’s Damietta port has increased concerns about the expansion of the scope of the war between the United States and the Islamic Republic, and about threats to vital shipping routes in the region.

Egypt is among the mediators in the current tensions between the Islamic Republic and the United States, and has been one of the participants in the regional four-party talks alongside Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump implied that the Islamic Republic was responsible for the attack, and said the incident “is a continuation of the same previous trend.”
