The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday, October 8, that a liquefied gas-carrying vessel named “NV Sunsh—” belonging to Natwit Shipping was targeted as it passed through the southern Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC said the vessel was transiting a “illegal” route and, after being hit, its engine room and propulsion system caught fire.

The IRGC Navy also said it has control of the Strait of Hormuz and will not allow the presence of U.S. military forces in this area.

In the statement, the IRGC said shipping companies that cooperate with the United States would face sanctions and punitive measures against their vessels.

According to the statement, the IRGC said it will no longer limit its response to vessels that pass through unauthorized routes to the Strait of Hormuz and will target these vessels across the region with punitive actions.
