🔻 Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson: Engagement with the United States was through a Qatari mediator

Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regarding reports about the “talk” between Abbas Araqchi and Steve Witkoff, Mr. Trump’s representative on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, said that “the engagement that took place with the American side was through a Qatari mediator.”

Mr. Baghaei said, “In just this past week, the positions and views of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, regional security, and Iran’s conditions for diplomacy were stated, and today the opportunity of our country’s delegation being present in New York was used so that these points would be reflected very clearly to the American side.”

The remarks by the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs come after reports about Mr. Araqchi’s conversation with Steve Witkoff received widespread coverage in Iran.
