🔻Iran condemned Colombia’s decision to cut diplomatic ties and called its accusations against Tehran “unfounded.”

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued today that Colombia’s decision to sever relations with a history of more than half a century is “in contradiction with the principle of mutual respect.”

The statement said the decision was “hasty” and taken “solely under the influence of Israel and the United States.”

The statement also accused the Colombian government of being “heavily under the influence of drug production and distribution cartels” and said it is part of the “infamous network of drug-related terrorism in the Americas,” adding that therefore “it is not in a position to want to teach others about terrorism and drugs.”

In the statement, Iran’s foreign ministry also said that “in line with safeguarding national interests, it will take the necessary measures in response to this unjust and hostile approach by the Colombian government.”

Consular relations between the two countries remain in place, and Colombia only cut diplomatic relations as of yesterday.
