Interview with the Iraqi foreign minister; “We are against the war and we do not want to be part of the war between Iran and the U.S.”
🔸The repercussions of the war between Iran and the United States have affected the entire region, and in this context, Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s foreign minister, says in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Washington that his country is facing increasing economic and security pressures resulting from this war.
🔸During this war, Iraq has been targeted by attacks, and disruptions to the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz have also affected the country’s oil exports. Baghdad is also concerned that the continuation of clashes between Iran and the United States will draw Iraq further into the war.
🔸Fuad Hussein says Baghdad wants the United States and Iran to return to negotiations, and that if both sides ask Iraq, it is ready to facilitate the talks.
🔸He also describes the end of the United States’ military mission in Iraq as a “new chapter” in Iraq’s sovereignty, while emphasizing that the departure of Americans does not mean a change in policy or the relations between the two countries, and that both sides intend to strengthen their relations.
