🔶 Increase in the likelihood of Pakistan and Turkey entering the war between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis
Turkey and Pakistan, in response to Saudi Arabia’s request to hold an emergency military meeting, are sending their senior commanders to Riyadh. The move could indicate closer ties between Ankara and Islamabad and more direct support for Saudi Arabia in its war with the Houthis.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense on Friday, 3 Mehr (25 September), confirmed that General Selçuk Bayraktar Oğlu, head of the country’s General Staff, will travel to Saudi Arabia. Al Jazeera has also reported that Asim Munir, the commander of Pakistan’s defense forces, is expected to enter Riyadh soon.
These developments come after Saudi Arabia asked Turkey and Pakistan to send their military commanders to Riyadh to review the implementation of the joint defense agreement.
The request was made in a context in which the Houthis’ missile and drone attacks on Saudi territory have increased in recent weeks, and the Yemen war has once again been drawn into Saudi territory.
