🔻Increase in the Deportation of Russian Citizens from the United States and Europe
An analysis of official figures by BBC shows that the trend of deporting Russian nationals from the United States and Europe is on the rise.
After Russia’s wide-ranging invasion of Ukraine in 2022, tens of thousands of Russians went to Western countries to escape political pressures, the risk of being sent to war, and their country’s growing isolation, but over the past year, more than one thousand of them have been returned to Russia.
Among these people are government-opposition activists as well as draft dodgers from the army. Some of them have faced detention, prison, or forced conscription into the military.
The number of those deported from the United States between 2023 and 2025 has increased by more than five times. Finland and Germany have also seen a similar rise.
