Apparently indirect talks between Iranian and American delegations took place during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s trip to New York, at a time when there was no information about the Leader of the Islamic Republic’s position on the negotiations.
Specifically, in the more than three weeks leading up to the Iranian president’s trip, essentially no other message was published from Mojtaba Khamenei besides a condolence text. On the day of the trip, a general message was published on the occasion of the start of the school year, which did not refer to recent crises or, in general, to the country’s problems. In fact, the last message from the Leader referring to these issues was the text of 6 Shahrivar, on the occasion of “Government Week,” in which officials were warned against “stating candidly the weaknesses,” so that “friends and companions” would not worry.
