From Earth to Orbit; the United States has confirmed for the first time the deployment of weapons in space

🔸For the first time, senior U.S. military officials have publicly confirmed that the country has deployed weaponry in Earth orbit; a development that could be a new turning point in the military competition among the three major space powers, the United States, Russia, and China.

🔸Troy Minike, U.S. Secretary of the Air Force, announced that the army of this country now has “space control warfighting equipment deployed in orbit,” which can defend U.S. forces against hostile actions.

🔸U.S. officials so far have not released information about the number of these weapons, their locations, the launch timeline, or how they work, and it is not clear whether these devices are designed to physically destroy satellites or whether they use methods such as electronic jamming.

🔸General Douglas Schies, another senior official of the U.S. Space Force, has also confirmed that the forces of this military branch use weapons deployed in orbit for defense against attacks that rely on space capabilities.

🔸The revelation of this capability comes at a time when Washington has been warning for years about the expansion of anti-satellite programs by Russia and China. In 2024, the Biden administration said that Russia is developing a space-based nuclear weapon whose detonation could take out a large number of satellites—an allegation that Moscow has denied.
