Syrian Kurds and a new problem; when Arabic language goes to war against the Kurdish language

🔸Mazloom Abdi, commander of the coalition of the Syrian Democratic Forces, announced this year on the third of Shahrivar that after completing the process of integrating his forces into the Syrian army, the coalition would be dissolved; an organization that the Kurds led and that, over the past 15 years, had controlled Kurdish areas in the northeast of Syria.

🔸This integration was not limited to the military formation; it also included state administrations, including education and training.

🔸Now that Damascus has again gained control over Kurdish-populated areas, which had been administered autonomously during the years of the civil war, it has announced in a directive that it allows some subjects to be taught in Kurdish; however, that the entire curriculum be in Kurdish is “impossible.”

🔸The directive, with the start of the new school year, led to protests by a segment of students. Among them is Mrawa Amo, an 18-year-old Syrian Kurdish student, who tells Alhurra Network: “We, students of Shahid Delkhaz School, took to the streets and staged protests to demand a return to the previous curriculum; a curriculum in which all subjects were taught in Kurdish.”
