Prince Reza Pahlavi discussed the situation in Iran, support for Iranians, and the prospect of a transition to democracy in a virtual meeting with leaders of Australia’s opposition, and called for dialogue with the government of that country.

According to a statement from the press office of Prince Reza Pahlavi, Angus Taylor, the leader of Australia’s opposition, Ted O’Brien, the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, and a number of members and senators of the Liberal–National coalition attended the meeting on Shahrivar 26.

Prince Reza Pahlavi said that the situation of human rights, the demands of the Iranian people, and the protection of Iranians living in Australia against “threats, intimidation, and interference” by the Islamic Republic were among the topics of discussion. He also explained the outlook for economic relations between Iran and Australia in the event of the establishment of a democratic system and the “Iran Prosperity Project.”

He expressed welcome for his meeting with Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, Penny Wong, the country’s foreign minister, and other members of the government, and said he would be willing to travel to Australia.

Prince Reza Pahlavi also said in an interview with ABC National Radio in Australia that the Iranian people should be free to choose the country’s future political system and described his role as helping to create the conditions for a transition to democracy.
