🔸 French officials said on Saturday, 10 Mordad, that the country’s largest wildfire since 1949 has been contained and that more than 224,000 people who had been evacuated from areas at risk of evacuation have been allowed to return to their homes.

🔸 The wildfire, in the Gironde region near Bordeaux, burned about 42,000 hectares of pine forest and destroyed nearly 240 homes.

🔸 However, local officials warned that containment of the fire does not mean it has been fully extinguished, and several hot spots are still being monitored by firefighters.

🔸 In the Var region in southeastern France, a fire that had flared up again was also brought under control after burning about 1,800 hectares. The blaze had forced nearly 2,500 people to evacuate overnight.

🔸 At the same time, in Greece, strong winds caused the spread of several wildfires.
