For the first time, an American gasoline shipment was exported from Syria’s port of Baniyas to Iraq.
This 234,000-barrel shipment of gasoline was discharged at Baniyas port by the tanker “Gayta,” and over a 13,000-kilometer route. The spokesperson of Syria’s oil company confirmed that the shipment will be sent to Iraq via land.
Before the Islamic Republic blocked the Strait of Hormuz, Iraq had imports of about 30,000 barrels of gasoline per day, but this gasoline was mainly purchased from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and India.
In recent months, Iraq has been relying almost entirely on imports of gasoline from the UAE.
In recent months, Syria has also become a major alternative route to the Strait of Hormuz for daily exports of one million barrels of oil, and part of Iraq’s fuel oil (mazut).
