🔻Egyptian parliament vote to support Saudi Arabia militarily postponed by one week

The Egyptian parliament’s vote on granting the president authorization to provide military support to Saudi Arabia has been postponed again by one week and has been scheduled for October 26 (4 Aban).

The vote was postponed yesterday so that all lawmakers would have the opportunity to express their views.

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the president, on Saturday asked members of the Egyptian parliament to approve support for Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks in the event that Saudi Arabia requests it.

He said: “I know that this action requires parliamentary approval, so I asked that an emergency session be held and that, if Saudi Arabia requests it, authorization be given to us to act.”

In 2015, Egypt joined the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen, although its role was mainly to secure the shipping lanes of the Red Sea rather than carry out military operations on the front lines of the war.

Several Houthi figures have warned Egypt not to intervene in their war with Saudi Arabia, saying that such intervention would ultimately serve Israel’s interests.

They avoided issuing a direct threat but recalled Egypt’s military intervention in the 1960s, which caused significant human losses for Egypt.
