The Republic of Azerbaijan, the United States and Armenia announced, in a joint statement, the formation of a joint working group to implement the project “Trump’s route for international peace and prosperity.”

At the opening meeting of this group, held on Friday, Brendan Hanharaun, Assistant Secretary of State of the United States for European and Eurasian Affairs, along with Alnor Mammadov and Vahan Kostanyan, deputy foreign ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, attended.

According to this statement, the first meeting of this working group was formed with a focus on issues related to the transportation of goods and the transit of electricity.

This corridor, which in the past was called the “Zangezur corridor,” connects Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through Armenian territory and is part of the large-scale “Middle Corridor” project that extends from China to Europe.

An American company is responsible for developing the project, and in addition to goods transit, transit of electricity and gas through this route is also planned.

The Islamic Republic is strongly opposed to the implementation of this project, and recently Ali Akbar severely criticized what he described as Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, “accompanying” the United States, calling it “unproductive, unaccounted for, and a cause of embarrassment for the Armenian people.”
