Denmark’s foreign minister said the Greenland security agreement, which will be signed on Tuesday, will not leave responsibility for Arctic security solely with Denmark and the United States, and will also make NATO a party to it.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Sunday to Denmark’s TV2 network that “to a large extent NATO will take care of the Arctic.”

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, wrote Friday on Truth Social that the agreement “gives the United States permanent security control” of Greenland.

The text of the agreement has not yet been published, and it is not clear whether it will change the 1951 defense treaty, which is the legal basis for the United States’ presence in Greenland.
