Data from energy analysis company Kepler shows that on Thursday 25 ships passed through the Bab el-Mandeb, but ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains very limited, with only two vessels passing through the waterway.
Kepler’s statistics show that yesterday 18 ships entered Bab el-Mandeb and seven ships left, among them several tankers can be seen.
By contrast, two empty ships entered the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz and no ships left the waterway.
Reuters writes that it is possible some ships also transited these two waterways covertly by turning off their automatic identification system, which is not reflected in Kepler’s data.
Brent benchmark oil prices on Friday fell by 2% to around $88.
