🔶 Consequences of Houthi attacks: operation of Saudi Arabia’s major refinery halted

According to a report by Reuters, Saudi Aramco shut down its refinery in Jazan on Monday (July 27) following a Saturday attack by Yemen’s Houthis.

The refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day, suffered damage to its power generation facilities and the combined-cycle gasification integrated (IGCC) unit and the tank farm area. According to a statement from the consultancy firm IIR, repairs are expected to be completed by August 15 and operations at the site will resume.

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks on Aramco facilities in Jazan and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s Jazan refinery is considered one of Aramco’s newest and most modern refining complexes. The facility is located on the Red Sea coast in Jazan province, near the Yemen border. The center was built as part of the larger “Jazan Economic City” project, with the aim of boosting industrial development in the country’s south-west.
