🔶 Concerns about “accelerated handling” of asylum requests in Germany

Since the entry into force of the new EU asylum rules, in Germany decisions are being made on most asylum applications through the “accelerated handling” process.

In response to a parliamentary question from the Left Party caucus, the German government said that since the asylum rules amendments entered into force on June 12, and until the end of July, 2,093 asylum cases had been initiated with the accelerated procedure and 1,561 cases with the ordinary procedure.

In 2013, other cases were also about determining which other EU member state would be responsible for the possible handling of an applicant’s request.

Based on the amendments to the European Common Asylum System (Geas), the so-called “accelerated handling” procedures must be concluded within three months.
