. 🔸More than a month after the closure and reopening of Iran-Iraq border crossings, the Iraqi government on Wednesday, 29 Mehr, issued an order to close the Al-Shayb border crossing, equivalent to Chazabeh in Iran.
🔸Al Jazeera, citing an Iraqi official, wrote that this action was carried out on the direct orders of Ali al-Zaydi, Iraq’s prime minister.
🔸However, the Iraqi government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, and the reason for the move remains unclear.
🔸Al Jazeera also reported that the closure of this crossing “will be completed by the gradual blocking of several other land borders over the coming days.”
🔸Under this order, “until further notice” neither individuals will be allowed to pass through this crossing nor will cargo transport vehicles.
🔸The news comes after the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic on Saturday, 25 Mehr, following the publication of reports about the suspension of commercial activity at a crossing between Iran and Pakistan, announced that “cross-border travel and interactions between Iran and Pakistan have been temporarily halted.”
🔸Ismail Baqai, without referring to further details, cited “technical problems and the need to take precautionary measures” as the reason for the incident.
