Breaking: The United States, Iran, and Oman are on the verge of reaching a 60-day interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and, according to a report by Axios, a U.S. statement is expected to be released on Tuesday.

The ships will use a northern route (entry, in waters off Iran) and a southern route (exit, in waters off Oman) without paying any fees. The mines in the central route will be cleared within 30 days, which may allow two-way passage under a future agreement between Oman and Iran.

Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the White House helped mediate. Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif originally agreed, and final approval was completed on Monday by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Supreme National Security Council.
