Agence France-Presse, in a report, said that despite optimism about a deal on the Strait of Hormuz, signs of continued tension in the region were seen in the hours before.

Yesterday, after a commercial ship was targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, one crew member went missing. A ship from India also sank in the Red Sea, following an attack whose perpetrator has not been identified.

Less than a week ago, Donald Trump, in an action that has become a recurring pattern, threatened Iran with an “very severe” attack, even against non-military infrastructure, but later backed away from his position and said that reaching a deal is close.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected any negotiation with the United States, although the U.S. president continues to emphasize that talks with Iran are ongoing.

Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States is participating in negotiations between Oman and Iran to increase the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
