🔻Berlin, the capital of Germany, is on the verge of one of the most competitive state elections in its history—an election in which Christian Democrats, the Left, Alternative for Germany, and the Greens are extremely close to each other in the polls.

According to the polls, İlâf Erelp, the candidate of the Left Party, is leading the electoral race and has become the most serious contender for the post of mayor of Berlin.

In the latest ZDF poll, the Left Party remains at the top with 22% of the vote, while the Christian Democratic Party led by Friedrich Merz, Germany’s chancellor, stands second with 20%. The far-right Alternative for Germany, which has doubled its share of the vote compared with the previous election, is in third place with 18%. The Greens are in fourth place with 15%, and the Social Democrats—which are currently in a governing coalition with the Christian Democratic Party—have 12%.

While support for the left-wing populist “Alliance Sarah Wagenknecht” is estimated at around 4%, it is still unclear whether the party will be able to cross the 5% threshold required to enter the state parliament. A poll published on Thursday showed that 23% of voters have still not made their final decision.
