After a video was published from a ceremony at Aras Hotel in Noshahr, in which women without mandatory hijab are seen alongside men, the Noshahr prosecutor’s office said it will investigate the issue and, in case of “negligence or misconduct,” will take action against the organizers.

It is said that the ceremony was held after the end of the “Aras Cup” sports competitions in which women and men competed in basketball and beach tennis events.

According to IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) news agency, the Noshahr prosecutor’s office said that “the way supervision and coordination are carried out by the responsible agencies and the organizers” needs further investigation, and “if negligence or misconduct is established,” action will be taken against them.

Previously as well, the presence of women without mandatory hijab in the 10-kilometer race in Tehran had drawn the attention of users on social media.

After the videos of this marathon became widely viewed, the judiciary announced a criminal complaint against the individuals and those involved in the race.

At the same time, the presence of women without mandatory hijab at some government “Janfeda” ceremonies prompted a group of users to react. They accused the government of taking a “selective approach” in dealing with hijab in line with “its political goals.”
