🔺Ban on hijab in Azerbaijan schools implemented

▪ Azerbaijan’s public schools have begun implementing new uniform regulations, and some veiled students and teachers have been prevented from entering the classroom.

▪ The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers approved these regulations on 30 Shahrivar. The text of the resolution does not mention “hijab,” but it bans wearing clothing that, according to the government, violates the country’s “secular principle” in schools. For the first time, requirements were also set for teachers’ dress.

▪ Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs also reported the arrest of 37 people in connection with incidents related to these regulations. Protesters in Baku and several other cities clashed with police, and attempts at arson have been reported.
