At least three dead and 21 injured in a bomb explosion at a restaurant in central Moscow

🔸 Russian officials said on Sunday, 11 Mordad, that a homemade bomb exploded in a restaurant in central Moscow, killing at least three people and injuring 21.

🔸 The National Committee for Countering Terrorism of Russia said the bomb went off at around 8 p.m. local time on Saturday in a restaurant located in Koudrinskaya Square, near the center of Russia’s capital.

🔸 The committee said the dead included a woman suspected of bringing the bomb into the restaurant, a security officer who prevented her from entering the restaurant, and a restaurant guest.

🔸 Some sources reported five deaths in the incident, but Russian officials have not confirmed this figure yet.

🔸 In a statement published by Russian state news agencies, the National Committee for Countering Terrorism said: “A homemade bomb exploded in a restaurant.”

🔸 According to the committee, the 21 injured suffered injuries of varying severity. It was also announced that operational measures and investigations are underway to clarify the details of the explosion.

🔸 The explosion took place at an Italian restaurant located in one of Moscow’s Stalin-era skyscrapers. Based on information published on the restaurant’s website, the venue was closed at the time of the blast to hold a private event.

🔸 The Russian-language independent media Telegram channel “Astra,” citing its observations of military vehicles outside the restaurant, reported that the event was a celebration of one of Russia’s generals.

🔸 Russian journalist Oleg Kašin also speculated that the event might have been held to mark one of the events related to Lieutenant General Aleksandr Chaiko, commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
