🔸As a major wildfire approached the historic monastery of “San Juan de la Peña” in northeastern Spain, rescue teams removed the remains of the first three kings of Aragon from the building and transferred them to a safe location.

🔸The three kings ruled between 1035 and 1104 AD, and their remains were kept in the royal tomb of the monastery in the province of Huesca. During the transfer operation, a number of historical artifacts and paintings housed in the monastery were also moved to a safe place.

🔸The fire, which started on Monday in the Riglos rock formations, has so far burned more than 9,000 hectares and has prompted the evacuation of residents of 16 towns and villages. Rising temperatures and strong winds on Thursday fueled the spread of the blaze.

🔸Despite firefighting operations continuing throughout the night, the monastery remained safe from the flames by the morning of Friday.

🔸Spain’s Civil Guard has also announced that one person was detained on suspicion of starting the wildfire.
