🔶 Another commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz was targeted by an “unknown projectile”

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center reported an incident involving a cargo ship 37 kilometers northeast of the city of Khasab in Oman, in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the center’s report on Tuesday, August 4 (13 Mordad), the ship sent a distress message, stating that it had been targeted by an “unknown projectile.” The report did not mention the name of the vessel, nor any possible damage or casualties.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center said that the relevant authorities are “currently investigating” the incident.

In recent days, the number of attacks on ships near Oman’s coasts has increased. After the agreement between Iran and the United States, Oman introduced the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz as a safe passage for ships to travel. However, the Islamic Republic has called for ships to use the northern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, which runs along the coasts of Iran.

Tehran calls the route proposed by Oman “unsafe” and has repeatedly stated that for ships to transit “safely” through the Strait of Hormuz, they must pass through the route designated by Iran.
