According to local media, dozens of people went missing after part of a shopping center collapsed in Kumamoto Province. Also, after an explosion at the “AEON Mall” shopping center in Kashima, 20 to 30 people were reported missing. The fire department said the second floor of the shopping center collapsed.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said the earthquake did not cause any damage or safety issues for the Sendai nuclear power plant, about 100 kilometers from the earthquake’s epicenter, and the plant is continuing to operate.
