Chris Murphy, the Democratic senator from the U.S. state of Connecticut, was hospitalized on Saturday after suffering a stroke.

Murphy, while watching his son’s hockey game, experienced numbness in his arm, and was transferred for treatment to Johns Hopkins Hospital.

His chief of staff said Murphy is alert, is responding to his surroundings, and that his treatment process is going well. Doctors are also optimistic about his full recovery.
