The Islamic Republic announced that it will announce a new prohibited zone in the Persian Gulf in the coming days, as well as new shipping corridor maps in the Strait of Hormuz.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said in an interview with state television on Sunday that the zone will begin from the point marking the start of the U.S. blockade and will extend into parts of the Persian Gulf. He added that any vessel that enters the new zone will be added to the sanctions list.
Rezaei said that maps of transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz will also be approved soon. He said: “The maps of a new international corridor that is located in the waters of Iran and Oman and in which Iran will manage will be agreed and must be signed within the coming days.”
