The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic warned in a message in Korean that any operational involvement or military presence by South Korea in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz “will have serious consequences.”

Ismail Baqai wrote: “Any operational involvement or military presence by other parties in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz will be considered direct support for the aggressor and will have serious consequences.”

Baqai’s message is Tehran’s second warning to Seoul within three days.

South Korea is under pressure from Washington to participate in ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz. Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has repeatedly criticized allies for not cooperating in the Hormuz file.
