The Swedish government announced that it has summoned the ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and asked one of the officials of the Islamic Republic’s embassy to leave Swedish soil.

Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the activities of this embassy official were not consistent with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Gunnar Strömmer, Sweden’s Minister for Justice, said the Islamic Republic has for a long time carried out activities inside and against Sweden that threaten the security of the country. He added that these activities target opponents of the Islamic Republic, as well as Jewish and Israeli interests in Sweden, and are carried out using criminal networks.

Maria Malmer, Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, also said this embassy official is being expelled in order to “protect citizens and other interests of Sweden.”

So far, the Swedish government has not announced the exact name and position of the expelled embassy employee of the Islamic Republic.
