Hernan Alberto Gil, a 43-year-old security guard, was trapped under the rubble of a seven-story building in the coastal area of Katia La Mar in the state of La Guaira—a region that was severely damaged following two strong earthquakes. After three days of careful excavation operations, rescuers removed him from under the rubble using a stretcher and transferred him to a hospital. Rescuers from seven countries took part in the operation, including Venezuela, Chile, the United States, Portugal, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico.
