CNN, citing three sources, reported that the Trump administration wants any future possible negotiations with the Islamic Republic to focus on Tehran’s nuclear program, not on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

In contrast, Tehran has linked readiness for nuclear talks to resolving the issue of the Strait, including lifting the U.S. blockade.

One U.S. official said that, under current conditions, Washington would only negotiate on the nuclear file. Donald Trump, the U.S. president, also wrote on Truth Social that the United States almost has complete control of the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, Oman is working on drawing up a regional framework for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Collecting fees from oil tankers is one of the main obstacles to any possible agreement, although, according to CNN sources, opposition from some regional countries and Europe to this plan has decreased.

CNN reported that the United States has reviewed Oman’s proposal, but has not yet openly supported it. U.S. officials say that their forces have the upper hand in the strait, but that the continued escort of ships and attacks by Islamic Republic forces have raised concerns about the sustainability of these operations in the long term.
