Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wants a closer relationship with the European Union
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is exploring a “unique alliance” with the European Union, while ruling out full EU membership.
Carney said Canada and the EU share common values and priorities and could be “stronger together” as global tensions increase.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Canada is considering an “associate member” status with the bloc, potentially allowing closer cooperation on trade, energy, AI, defense and critical minerals.
The move comes as Canada’s trade tensions with the United States continue to escalate.
