How much does one day of school cost? From transportation and the school bus to food and other incidental expenses, a simple calculation shows what cost daily attendance at school imposes on families.

In the past school year, schools in Iran were repeatedly shut down or moved to distance learning due to shortages of electricity and gas, air pollution, and then the outbreak of war. Now, on the eve of the new school year, rising cost of living has led some parents and education activists to say that continuing with virtual education—at least economically—would be less expensive for families. Recent reports also point to a significant increase in the costs of stationery, school uniforms, and school transportation services.

Rising prices have now turned the choice between in-person and virtual school into an economic issue for some families.
