🔶 The funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei began with the opening of the doors of Tehran’s Mosalla The public farewell ceremony for Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, officially began on Saturday, 13 Tir (July 4), with the opening of the northern gates of Tehran’s Mosalla, and domestic media report widespread public turnout at the venue. Ali Khamenei’s coffin has been placed in this location for public viewing so that attendees can pass by it. Islamic Republic officials say they expect between 15 and 20 million people to take part in the six-day funeral ceremonies in Iran and Iraq. According to the announced schedule, Khamenei’s body will be moved after Tehran to Qom and then to Iraq, and ultimately on Thursday it will be laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad. In this connection, Iraqi sources have also reported that Baghdad will be closed on Wednesday in observance of the funeral ceremony. Ali Khamenei was killed, along with his four family members, on February 28 of this year during an Israeli airstrike on the location where he was staying in Tehran. The attack occurred at the beginning of the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel; a war that was halted after more than five weeks with the establishment of a ceasefire.
